Columbia is a state park, as well as a town and one of the best preserved
areas in the Gold Country. In this legendary mining town, where prospectors
were picking thirty pound nuggets off the ground in 1850, you can
listen to bluegrass  music
or enjoy exquisite cuisine. You can visit the Marble Quarry Park to
pan for gold or the historic Wells Fargo building to take a ride on
a stagecoach. You can tour the mining country on horseback, shop in
one of the many antique shops, or go wine tasting at a local vineyard.
Columbia, “Gem of
the Southern Mines,” is the best preserved Gold Rush town in all of
the Mother Lode. Columbia State Historic Park is a popular destination
for educational living history programs, special family gatherings
and getaways.

sidewalks and step into the distinct flavor of life as it was in the
mid 1800’s. There are many interactive opportunities for children
of all ages from making candles and soaps to seeing horseshoes or
nails being forged by a real “smithy.” Whether you’re hankering for
